Over the past two decades, we’ve had the privilege of helping Open Studios North Fife grow from a small, ambitious idea into one of the most anticipated highlights in Fife’s cultural calendar. What began as an early collaboration with Lucy Turner and Alison Strachan quickly evolved into something far bigger than we ever imagined—culminating in Open Studios North Fife receiving the very first Create in Fife Award for Outstanding Contribution in 2013.
The Objective
To open the doors of Fife’s creative community—inviting the public to step inside the studios of local artists, designers, and makers for a welcoming weekend each May.
The Approach
From the outset, our aim was to capture the energy and diversity of the event itself. Early designs celebrated the rich mix of artistic styles and media, using informally offset imagery to echo the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of the studios. The brochure was thoughtfully organised by location, combining studio listings with directions and local points of interest—making it easy for visitors to plan their route and explore as much as possible over the weekend.
The Impact
As the event grew year on year, so did our approach. With more studios joining the programme, the design evolved—becoming cleaner and more focused, placing the artists themselves firmly at the heart of the story. First launched in 2005, and still going strong twenty years later, our ongoing collaboration has supported Open Studios North Fife’s transformation into a three-day, community-led celebration of creativity, with many studios now welcoming hundreds of visitors each day.
What started as a simple idea has become a thriving cultural experience—and we’re proud to have been part of its journey from the very beginning.
